Portraits of 150 local veterans displayed at Clarke Historical Museum
It’s been in the works for two years, and today local veterans finally got to see the end result.
Artist and North Coast Honor Flight co-founder Kathrin Burleson has been drawing portraits of more than 150 World War II veterans in Humboldt County. Today, her collection was debuted at the annual Veteran’s Day ceremony at the Clarke Historical Museum.
One veteran at Monday’s ceremony said seeing the portrait reminded her of the time she spent in the Navy and all the people she met.
"I’m surprised,” Irene Gates said. “I didn't know whether I should make an effort to come or not, but I’m glad I did.”
