Possible upgrades coming to Samoa Bridge Boat Launching Facility in Eureka
EUREKA- The City of Eureka is working to enhance and build access to their Waterfront Trail, and the Samoa Boat Launch could be receiving upgrades as part of that initiative.
At Tuesday's meeting, the council gave approval for staff to apply for a $1.5 million state grant for the facility. If the money is awarded, the boat launch will be replaced, a new dock will be added, the parking lot would be resurfaced with more ADA parking spaces. Also, the city would be able to construct the restroom that would be up to date with current ADA standards and build it closer to the Waterfront Trail.
"It's the law and it's also the right thing to do in regards to people that have disabilities to be able to access everything that we access," said Mayor Frank Jager, the Mayor of Eureka.
If the application is accepted by the state, the City of Eureka will receive the grant this summer. Construction could begin as soon the summer of 2015.
