Power knocked out for 1600 PG&E customers after hit and run in Eureka
EUREKA - An unknown hit and run driver severed a telephone pole and knocked out power to 1,600 PG&E customers in Eureka. Just before 9:30 Friday evening, emergency personnel were called to the corner of 6th and K Streets. An unknown vehicle had crashed through a telephone pole severing it at its base and downing live power lines.
Electricity was knocked out from Broadway all the way to N street. The Humboldt County Jail and Humboldt Bay Fire Department were working off generators. PG&E hopes to have power restored before 3 am.
If anyone knows any information about this incident, they are being asked to call the Eureka Police Department.
