Proceeds from fundraiser BBQ to be given to Samoa Peninsula Fire District
SAMOA- A North Coast community showed their support for their local fire station as community members gathered in Fairhaven for a barbeque fundraiser on Labor Day.
The barbeque was held at the home of Jack Birdwell, who is a Fairhaven resident and Samoa Peninsula Volunteer Fire District Board Member. Birdwell has been having Labor Day barbeques on his property for the last 10 years. However, Monday marks the first time that money raised from the barbeque benefits Samoa Fire. Food, live music and an auction were featured, and fire officials hope to raise $1,000 for the fire station.
"Times are tough all over. For our Volunteer Fire District, we need all sorts of things, a new fire hose, new equipment, and every little bit that comes around helps," said Fire Chief Dale Unea with the Samoa Peninsula Volunteer Fire District.
