Pt. Arena becomes part of California National Monument
Congressman Jared Huffman joined President Obama today at The White House for a ceremony welcoming the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands to the California National Monument.
This designation permanently protects more than sixteen hundred acres of beach, bluffs and other natural habitats including the Garcia River Estuary which are home to: coho salmon, steelhead, mountain beaver Behrens’s Silverspot Butterfly and other endangered species.
Congressman Huffman said, ”I am thrilled that President Obama has preserved these pristine and breathtaking coastal lands. It is fitting the President is following in the footsteps of Teddy Roosevelt in using The Antiquities Act; the same law that protects the Grand Canyon and the Statue of Liberty bringing this land into permanent protection as a national monument.
