Radiothon underway for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
EUREKA- Callers across the North Coast spent Thursday making donations which could save a child’s life, all as part of the 26th annual St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Radiothon.
Local radio hosts are asking listeners to call and donate for the Radiothon and that money will fund free cancer care for children, as well as cancer research. More than $20,000 have been raised on the North Coast since Thursday morning. Hospital officials hope to raise more than $125,000 thousand dollars by Friday evening. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital not only funds free care for sick children, but the hospital develops protocol that children throughout the world follow for their treatments. Big Red 92.3/98.3 FM, Cool 105.5 and Power 96.3 FM in Eureka, and KPOD 97.9 FM and KCRE 94.3 FM in Crescent City are participating. Big Red’s host, Rollin Trehearne, told News Channel 3 why he loves having a role in the event.
"What I enjoy about the Radiothon and being a part of it is really the effects it has on so many children around the world, including our local community here. Just the little bit that I can do helps the researchers and the hospital folks do their job and that provides hope for so many people and people who I've come to know personally here on the north coast. Some who have had their challenges come to success and some that did not have the end that we wanted. And until every child has a chance to live a full life, we're going to keep doing this," said Trehearne.
To donate, call 1-800-942-8771. Donations must be made on Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.
