Humboldt State University has the highest number of new students coming onto campus this year than ever before. Incoming freshman and transfer students combine to a total of 2,339 students, 971 of them being transfer students.
Peg Blake, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, said the numbers show there is a need for higher education.
Blake said the high numbers are from the university actively recruiting new students around the state.
"We're different from other campuses and we're not a fit for everybody, but we're doing a good job at making sure that the students that do come up here are a good fit," said Blake.
The census numbers show that 7,772 students are enrolled full time at Humboldt State.
Humboldt State enrollment numbers also show that 25.6 percent of the student population are Hispanic. This will allow the university to become a 'Hispanic-serving institution' and allow them to apply for government funding.
"That frees up some funding for us to provide even more support and services for our students," said Blake.
