EUREKA- For the next few days in Eureka, North Coast residents have the chance to celebrate the past, present and future of the logging industry.
The 77th annual Redwood Region Logging Conference will feature vendors selling logging products and equipment, training sessions for loggers, sawmill demonstrations and awards for local loggers. A collegiate logging competition is set for Thursday and Friday. In addition, 1,800 students from around Humboldt County will participate in Education Day, where they will learn all about the forest products industry. The free conference alternates between being held in Eureka and Ukiah every year.
"A lot of the industry is making different changes and sure, we have a few less mills, a few less of this or that, but those that are left are very strong and they're here for the long haul and they're here to do a good job. And what we want to do is showcase all the things that we're doing in a positive way, and that we're going to be here for a long time," said Katherine Ziemer, the Executive Director of the Redwood Region Logging Conference.
The event will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Redwood Acres. Redwood Acres is located at 3750 Harris Street in Eureka. The conference begins each day at 9 a.m.
