Rio Dell residents face $500 penalty for high water use
RIO DELL- During the City of Rio Dell's water emergency, the council is considering fining residents up to $500 for using too much water.
The council will consider adopting a three tier penalty system at Tuesday's meeting. Under the proposal, residents who exceed the daily allowance would first receive a warning, then a $250 fine and after the third time receive a $500 fine.
The council was considering a previous option that would multiply the residents bill, however, the current proposal falls under preexisting ordinances.
Kyle Knopp, the city's City Manager, said the fine could help residents from ignoring the city's water restrictions.
