BENBOW - Traffic is down to one lane, each way, on Highway 101 near Benbow after a rock slide sent debris into the roadway overnight.
California Highway Patrol and Caltrans responded to Highway 101 just south of Benbow Lake Road where multiple vehicles had reportedly been hit by falling rocks.
Personnel blocked the lanes affected and diverted traffic to the other side of the highway. Geologists were on scene this morning to assess the situation. They also brought in safety barriers to protect the driving public.
As of Thursday night, Caltrans estimates all lanes to reopen by Friday morning.
This is not the first rock slide in this portion of Highway 101. The area was active back in the 1964 flood and also in 1982.
