EUGENE, Ore.—Fred Rosser made the most of a step up in competition by finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 53.87 at the Oregon Preview, giving him a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II championships.
Three Jacks made the trip to the meet hosted by University of Oregon at Hayward Field. In addition to Rosser, Ben Stern and Tyler Cleveland competed, running in the 3000 meters and finishing 25th (8:39.64) and 30th (8.45.23), respectively.
HSU’s Chester O’Neal was also invited to compete in the hammer throw at the Oregon Preview, but he elected instead to join the rest of the Jacks track team at the Johnny Mathis Invitational in San Francisco. O’Neal won the hammer at the Mathis with a throw of 165-5. Teammate Viet Duong was second in the hammer (133-2) and third in the shot put (46-7.5).
Other highlights for the Jacks in San Francisco included Devon Kelsey’s second-place finish in the 5,000 meters (17.48.79) and Ben Tarango’s fourth-place finish in the 800 meters (1:55.56).
Next week the Jacks will travel to Chico for the Chico Division II Meet on Saturday.
