Samoa Peninsula Fire District to hold fundraiser this weekend
SAMOA- People will have the chance to enjoy some fishing and help the Samoa Peninsula Fire District raise money this weekend.
This weekend will mark the 5th annual Perch’n on the Peninsula Surfperch Fishing Tournament Fundraiser, where people will compete to see who can catch the biggest surfperch fish from the ocean. Three adult winners and 3 winners in the kids group will receive a free charter fishing trip. At last year’s fishing tournament, the Samoa Peninsula Fire District raised $1,500. They will use the money they raise this year to buy some new equipment and help fund firefighter training. Members of the Somoa Peninsula Fire District say every bit of money raised is important.
"Sometimes we get cash donations from other sponsors but this is the only time of the year that we actually get to raise money to put into our volunteer association," said Derek Satterlee, a Resident Firefighter with the Samoa Peninsula Fire District.
You can register for the tournament on Saturday at Peninsula Elementary School, where the event is being held, beginning at 6 a.m. Pre-registration is available in multiple locations until Friday night. They are Mad River Bait, Tackle and Guide Service in Arcata, Pacific Outfitters in Eureka, Englund Marine in Eureka, RMI Outdoors in Eureka and Grundmans Sporting Goods in Rio Dell.
