DEL NORTE - A Santa Rosa man drowned while boating Saturday in the Smith River of Jedediah Smith State Park. According to witnesses, 57-year-old Jay Jackson was in a 10 foot, one man drift boat. His anchor was dragging and got caught, causing the bow to dip down close to the anchor line and swamping the boat. The water in the area is very swift and Jackson was sent into the river and downstream. Two witnesses eventually were able to pull him out. CPR was given but to no avail. Jackson was pronounced dead on the bank.
