FORTUNA- Senior housing is on the rise in the Friendly City.
On Tuesday Fortuna’s Planning Commission will review final designs for a 25-unit multi-family development off of Stockton Court.
Yarrow Village will provide affordable housing to local seniors. The development is phase three of a low-income housing project that started in 2007. It is the third and final multi-family facility planned for the area.
The $6 million development is funded through government subsidies and will be completed by the end of next year. Because of the city’s growing elderly population, project coordinators expect the units to be filled within thirty days of completion.
“The senior housing project is important for the City of Fortuna because it's going to fill a great need,” said Fortuna City Manager Regan Candelario. “There’s really a lack of senior housing units available to our people in our community as well as our whole county. This project is in a key location, it's near downtown, it's near a shopping center, also there's bus routes available here so I think it will be an excellent project for seniors and a good location for them here in sunny Fortuna.”
