Seniors show off their holiday sweaters at Humboldt Senior Resource Center
EUREKA- Friday is National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day. At the Humboldt Senior Resource Center in Eureka, people celebrated by wearing their most festive holiday sweaters.
It was the first ever Sweater Party at the center, where seniors celebrated the holiday by wearing their sweaters and enjoying lunch, cookies and cake. The Soulful Sidekicks played Christmas songs and other tunes. Seniors wearing festive sweaters got raffle tickets, and prizes were awarded to nine winners.
"It's helping all of us get in the spirit of the holidays and the holidays are all about being with family and having fun and good conversation and if we can wear our special sweater, maybe it's a pretty sweater or maybe it's an ugly Christmas sweater, it just provides some fun and helps us laugh at ourselves and provides a lot of good conversation around the table," said Barbara Walser, the Director of Nutrition and Activities at the Humboldt Senior Resource Center.
"The way I look at it, it gives us a chance to commune with one another and kind of loosen up a little bit and it's a very relaxed atmosphere, everybody can be themselves," said Roy Smith, who is a senior.
Should the Humboldt County Correctional Facility provide more re-entry fairs for prisoners?
