EUREKA- While many were opening gifts Wednesday morning, animals at the Sequoia Park Zoo were getting their own kind of present. It is an annual tradition where zookeepers feed treats to the animals for the holiday.
The Gibbons tore into their boxes filled with vegetables, fruit, and popcorn. Students from Washington Elementary School in Eureka decorated about 20 boxes, which fed the Spider Monkeys, Cavies, and Red Pandas. Visitor Debbie Timm said it is a tradition that her family participates in every year,
"Every time we come up to Grandma's house for Christmas this is what we do after we open gifts.” She said, “I love it when they are giving all of the animals their gifts and they get to open them up and sometimes there is little food treats and sometimes their are toys.”
