ARCATA- Arcata City Council member Shane Brinton will be stepping down from the position by the end of the week. Brinton made the announcement on Wednesday at the start of the council meeting.
Brinton said he was leaving the position to spend time carrying for his mother, who's illness is becoming more serious.
He was elected to the city council back in 2008 when he was 21-years-old and was reelected and ran unopposed in 2012.
Next the council will have to decide if they want to appoint someone to fill the position, or hold an election for the seat. The council is expected to decide at their next meeting on July 2nd.
