Shelter Cove shooting believed to be in self defense
SHELTER COVE- A 32-year-old man is dead after being shot by a 48-year-old woman in Shelter Cove on Sunday. Lt. Steve Knight with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said the shooting appears to have been in self defense. No charges have been filed.
The man who was killed allegedly assaulted the shooter and another 43-year-old woman at the home.
Ethan Loren Stroud has been identified as the victim.
The incident reportedly happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday on Olson Road at Stroud's home that he shared with his girlfriend, the 43-year-old woman he allegedly assaulted.
Detectives learned that Stroud showed up to the home and assaulted the 48-year-old shooter and his 43-year-old girlfriend said Knight.
In the assault the 48-year-old got a hold of a semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at Stroud, telling him to stop assaulting them. Knight said he aggressively went after the woman with the gun, who shot him.
The case has been forwarded to the Humboldt County District Attorney's Office for review.
