Sheriff Downey holds meeting with Blue Lake citizens
Blue Lake - A special meeting with Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Downey was held this evening at the Mad River Grange to discuss law enforcement services in Blue Lake. It’s been six months since the city has signed a new contract with the Sheriff's Department and this was an opportunity for citizens and the Sheriff to discuss the issues.
Residents were concerned about the number of patrols, the amount of time deputies are in town and the amount of crime happening in their town. Others wanted a proactive approach similar to the Problem Oriented Police in Eureka. Immediately follow the meeting with Sheriff Downey, citizens and Blue Lake leaders met to talk about putting together a neighborhood watch program.
Tomorrow Sheriff Downey will hold a similar meeting in southern Humboldt.
