Shift may come McKinleyville Elementary Schools
MCKINLEYVILLE- The McKinleyville Union School District Superintendent is recommending a change to the district's board that would shift both elementary schools. Under the proposal Dows Prairie Elementary School would start serving kindergarten through second grade and Morris Elementary School would serve third through fifth graders. Both school teach k-5.
Superintendent Michael Davies- Hughes said he is suggesting the change to the board because Dows Prairie has seen increased class sizes and the elementary school has no empty classrooms and is expecting to only grow.
Under the proposal the middle school would stay the same and both Elementary Schools would be a combination of traditional and language immersion courses. Currently, only Morris Elementary has a language immersion program.
The school board will discuss the change Wednesday at their meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Azalea Conference Center.
