Law enforcement responded to a reported shooting on Pine Creek Road in Hoopa just before 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. At least one person has been shot. Two others are injured. One man has been airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. Another victim was taken by ambulance to Mad River Community Hospital in Arcata. All three victims' conditions are unknown, but there have been no fatalities.
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office identified Rodney Vincent Ortiz as a suspect in the shooting.
Rodney Vincent Ortiz is described as a 45-year-old male, 5' 9", 190 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes.
Vincent Rudy Ortiz is the son of Rodney Vincent Ortiz, and has been named as a person of interest in the shooting. Vincent Ortiz is described as a 25-year-old male, 5'7", 160 pounds, black hair and brown eyes.
According to the EPD Twitter account, Rodney and Vincent Ortiz were spotted driving in Eureka on Saturday night.
On Sunday morning, a vehicle associated with Rodney and Vincent Ortiz, a silver Toyota Rav-4 with license plate #6UWA072, was found unoccupied and parked in northwest Eureka. The Sheriff's Office recovered the vehicle.
On Sunday afternoon, residents told the the EPD that they saw the Rodney and Vincent Ortiz at Bayshore Mall, and a business on Broadway later in the day. An employee of that business updated the Eureka Police Department on what Rodney Ortiz was wearing. At around 6:40 tonight, an acting EPD Sgt. Saw Rodney Ortiz walking on West Henderson near Spring and took him into custody without incident. Vincent Ortiz remains outstanding.
