Skateboarder struck by vehicle in Eureka and seriously injured
EUREKA- A vehicle strikes a man who is skateboarding in Eureka on Wednesday night, sending him to Saint Joseph Hospital with major injuries.
The incident occurred just before midnight at the intersection of Broadway and West Henderson Street. Police say 41-year-old Eureka resident Russell Busch was riding a skateboard west on Henderson, down the steep hill, and couldn’t stop before entering the intersection. Meanwhile, 38-year-old Eureka resident Sedgewick Neily was stopped at the red light on the right southbound lane on Broadway. When Neily accelerated for a green light, his vehicle collided with the skateboarder. Police say Neily couldn’t avoid the collision and that impairment is not a factor. Busch suffered major head injuries and is in serious condition.
