Social Host Ordinance adopted by Eureka City Council
EUREKA- An ordinance intended to reduce underage drinking in Eureka has been passed by the city council.
The ordinance would impose escalating fines on adults found responsible for allowing underage drinking, like the host of a party. Landlords or homeowners would not necessarily be subject to penalties. Fines start at $250 for the first offense, but violators may also have to pay for police, fire or medical response to a scene. The ordinance also allows officers to determine if criminal charges should be imposed on hosts of parties. The ordinance will go into effect on December 4th.
