EUREKA- Some new speed limits in Eureka are right around the corner.
The Eureka Engineering Ddepartment has been tracking how fast motorist go on city streets for the last five months. State law requires speed limits to match the speed of 85 percent of commuters, except in areas such as residential neighborhoods or school zones. At Tuesday night’s council meeting, staff recommended lowering the speed limit from 35 to 30 miles per hour on some roadways, including H street between 7th Street and Manzanita Avenue, and I Street between 7th Street and Harris Street. On Tuesday night, the council decided to move forward on the new speed limits, which could take effect in March.
