FORTUNA- Newly elected State Senator Mike McGuire stopped by Fortuna on Wednesday to learn more about how the state can help Humboldt. Twenty-eight representatives from Chamber of Commerces across the county, police, fire and local schools were present for the town hall style discussion.

At the meeting, Senator McGuire presented his plans for the next four years, including priorities to create jobs and boost North Coast economy, increase spending on students and public schools, address environmental issues, trespass grows and deploying broadband throughout the county’s rural areas. Also at Wednesday’s meeting, attendees had a chance to bring up issues impacting residents here at home.

“The most important part about today is hearing from those that are here,” District 2 State Senator McGuire said. “The business folks of Humboldt County, particularly those that are here in Fortuna. We want to hear how the state can be their partner in success and what we're hoping for is a robust conversation about how we can work together to move Humboldt County forward.”
