Stolen merchandise returned in backpack, letter of apology included
EUREKA- A News Channel 3 update to a story we first brought you last week, about a Eureka gas station manager who chased a robber out his store with stolen merchandise. On Monday, he said some of those stolen goods were returned.
The robbery happened Tuesday at the Patriot gas station on Myrtle Avenue. Manager Gurpreet Sohal says a young man was caught on surveillance footage stealing two cases of butane lighter fluid, about 24 cans total. Sohal said he chased him down the block but lost him after he says the suspect jumped into the back of a pick-up truck that drove off.
A few days later gas station employees found a backpack outside of the store with a letter of apology written on the front.
Sohal said, “They opened it up and there was one full case and six cans of butane and there was a note that said I am sorry and I will get your other money back, whatever is missing” he said, “Maybe he parents made him realize that he made a mistake."
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and adds that butane is commonly used in the extraction process to make honey oil.
