"Strike Fire" ignites in Six Rivers National Forest
Orleans - Lightning has set yet another fire in Six Rivers National Forest.
Authorities are calling it the “Strike Fire.” It began Wednesday afternoon in the Bluff Creek Drainage Area near the Orleans Ranger District. Air tankers and helicopters were initially used to allow safe passage for firefighters to access the blaze. This has allowed personnel to keep the fire relatively small at just under 10 acres.
Authorities had expected to be 90% contained by 7 pm Friday evening and 100% by Saturday evening. Fire lines are continuing to be improved and some exterior mop up work is already in progress.
