Structure fire damages Eureka home, neighboring residence
EUREKA- A Eureka home burst into flames just before 8 p.m. Saturday.
Humboldt Bay Fire crews responded to the structure fire on the 3100 block of M Street around 7:45 p.m. When crews arrived they found the garage and roof of the home in flames. The fire began to spread to the outside of a neighboring home, but was soon knocked down by firefighters.
“Fortunately, we were able to make a quick knock down on the fire, primarily keeping it to the residence where the fire started,” said Humboldt Bay Fire Chief Ken Woods. “Again, with houses this close together in this neighborhood, it could have been a lot worse but I really credit the crews for making a quick knock down on it.”
No one was home at the time and there were no injuries. The garage experienced significant damage, while the home sustained smoke damage. The outside of the neighboring home also experienced moderate damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
