Sudden Oak Death confirmed in Trinity County

NORTH COAST- A deadly tree disease that has swept the coast from Monterey to Humboldt County has now been confirmed in Trinity County just 600 yards across the Humboldt County line. It was found on an 80-acre Bureau of Land Management parcel adjacent to the Six Rivers National Forest. The disease is caused by an exotic plant pathogen that is killing tan oak and other oak species in the coastal regions.

Trinity County is now the 15th county to have Sudden Oak Death. Agricultural officials say it is a serious invasive disease that has killed more than 3 million trees since its discovery in 2000. In the last two years alone, more than 500,000 trees have died.
