EUREKA- The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors pushed forward regional broadband deployment Tuesday.
The supervisors authorized staff to work with Trinity County and Praxis, a private broadband agency, to bring high-speed fiber optic internet to communities along Highway 299. The fiber would run underground connecting Redding to Eureka, with connection points available every 4,000 feet down the line.
County staff will now work with Praxis, Caltrans and environmental agencies to survey the best route and secure funding for the project. Praxis officials estimate the project to take two and a half years to complete.
