Suspect in alleged pellet gun shooting pleads "not guilty"

Christian John Kay plead “not guilty” today in court for charges stemming from an alleged pellet gun shooting that injured two Eureka High Students back in November.

The 18-year-old was arrested on November 14— a week after allegedly shooting a pellet gun from an apartment balcony at a group of students during lunch break. Two of the students received injuries and one had to be hospitalized. The students have since recovered.

The incident occurred about a third of a mile from the school, but still raised questions from parents why the school wasn't locked down.

Kay was suspended from school and is facing charges for assault with a deadly weapon.

He’s due back in court for a preliminary hearing on January 22.
