Suspect arrested on suspicion of arson in connection to "Greenbelt" fire
A 25-year-old Eureka man has been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection to a fire Monday afternoon at the foot of Del Norte Street in Eureka.
Ryan Anthony MacDonald was taken into custody after witnesses said they saw him lighting fires in the area known as “Greenbelt” around 3 p.m.
Fire officials said the fire was only about 300 by 100 feet, but it was the second fire of the day in the Greenbelt area. Crews responded to the first fire behind the Bayshore Mall around 1:30 p.m.
Officials said crews were able to put the fire out within an hour and half and contain it to three acres. They said because of how close the two fires were in distance and time; they’ll be investigating if the two fires are connected.
MacDonald was booked into the Humboldt County Jail and is being held on $75 thousand dollars bail.
