FERNDALE- After three months of investigation the Ferndale Police Department has three juvenile suspects believed to be involved in the killing of a Future Farmer’s of America lamb at Ferndale High School.
According to police the lamb, Chops, was hit on the head and killed with a cinder block in his pen located in a field just northwest of Ferndale High School.
During the investigation officers were able to identify three male juvenile suspects who are also residents of Ferndale. Two of the three admitted involvement and the third suspect refused to speak with officers.
Detectives believe the three were drinking alcohol at the high school between the hours of 9 p.m. Sept. 20 and 4 a.m. Sept. 21. The investigation revealed the three juveniles chased the lamb into its pen where one of the juveniles reportedly smashed the lamb's head with a cinder block.
The case has been forwarded to the Humboldt County Juvenile Probation Department where they could be charged with animal cruelty, conspiracy, and burglary.
The owners of Chops tell News Channel Three that the suspects played for Ferndale High’s football team. A call was requested for the schools principal and superintendent, Jack Lakin, but went unanswered.
