Teachers given tools to help educate autistic students
EUREKA- Six local educators were awarded iPads and cash prizes to help teach autistic students in the classroom. Families Advocating Autism Now awarded the teachers Thursday night.
Fatima Naylor, the Director of FAAN said iPad's touch screen and color displays can help students with autism. Teachers said they can use different apps to teach students interactively in classrooms.
"I'm really excited," said Barbara Kapitan who works in the Rio Dell School District, and received and iPad 2.
FAAN is a local organization working to educate the community on autism. In the past they have awarded iPads and cash prizes to instructors in Humboldt County. They work with families with autistic children and make donations to school districts for education.
