Threading Communities Conference, strengthening Hmong community relationships
ARCATA- Boosting relationships between the Hmong community and service providers was one topic discussed Friday at an HSU conference.
More than 100 people came out to the Threading Communities Conference, hosted by Humboldt State and the University of California Davis. The event was put on to help bring together human service professionals and Hmong community members. They discussed ways to decrease the current barriers between the two and how to increase inclusiveness on many levels. They especially wanted to focus on child welfare.
“It’s more about building a relationship with the Hmong community and learning to trust one another. With the service provider and the Hmong community, to show that there’s a commitment to work with each other,” said Susie Cha, DHHS Social Worker and HSU Coordinator.
