Three people have applied for the vacant Ward 5 Eureka City Council seat. Lance Madsen resigned his position in October citing health reasons.
Chet Albin, Leslie Lollich and Barry Smith are the three contenders for the seat. All three are registered voters and live in the boundaries of Ward 5. That area covers the south part of the bay from Elk River Road to Humboldt Street and reaches up to F Street. The application process is now closed.
A committee will interview the applicants and then make a recommendation to the council. Mayor Frank Jager said previously that he hopes to have that recommendation to the council by the December 3 regular meeting.
The council voted in November to bypass a special election and voted instead to appoint someone to save money. Madsen said he would serve until his seat is filled. His term expires in 2014.
