Thumb drive with patient information missing from hospital
A thumb drive containing sensitive personal information for over 1000 patients at Redwood Memorial Hospital has been discovered missing.
Hospital authorities notified News Channel 3 of their discovery. On November 8, a hospital employee discovered an unencrypted thumb drive had been missing since November 6th. At this time, the thumb drive has not been recovered. Some of the information on the drive was personal along with specific test data performed in the cardio pulmonary department of Redwood Memorial Hospital with dates of service between the years 2001 and 2013. The information was intended to be maintained securely and used at the hospital. Since the discovery, additional steps have been taken to tighten security. Officials at the hospital said they were deeply sorry for the oversight. Each patient affected by the discovery has been notified by personal letter.
