EUREKA- A trial date is set for the 20-year-old man facing two felony counts accused of killing a Eureka man in the Samoa dunes. Jury trial for Phoenix King is slated for Feb. 10. King and his 16-year-old alleged accomplice are believed to have killed 44-year-old James John James with a crossbow in Sept. after a dispute over stolen items from their campsite. The teen told detectives James threatened to kill them both and sexually assault her, which is when king reportedly admitted to shooting the fatal arrow out of self-defense. The teen she is due back in court Dec. 19 when we could learn if she will be charged as an adult or a juvenile.
