Trial date set for man accused of fatal DUI in Eureka
EUREKA- The trial date has been set for Joe Serna, the man accused of vehicular manslaughter and a hit and run stemming from a fatal accident in Eureka in July of 2012.
Joe Serna was allegedly leaving an area bar and crashed into another vehicle at 17th Street and Myrtle Avenue, resulting in the death of pedestrian 57-year-old James Philbrook. Serna’s defense attorney told News Channel 3 in September he was arrested with a .17 blood alcohol level. Wednesday, the judge denied a motion filed by Serna’s defense attorney to dismiss the case. Joe Serna’s pre-trial hearing is set for April 9th, and the jury trial is scheduled for May 19th.
