Trinidad woman found dead near Luffenholtz Beach

A 58-year-old Trinidad woman’s body was recovered over the weekend. Authorities believe Lori Jane Melendrez may have fallen off a cliff near Luffenholtz Beach on Saturday.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a call just after 8 p.m. on Saturday that a woman had just fallen off a cliff. Law enforcement launched a search and rescue assisted by the US Coast Guard and Calfire, but ultimately her boyfriend found her.

The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office said her death appears accidental, but they’ll perform an autopsy on Tuesday to find out for sure.
