Truck collides with construction tractor near Fields Landing
EUREKA- A Eureka man is in the hospital after colliding with a construction tractor on Highway 101 near an area of roadwork.
80-year-old Charles Lawrence was traveling northbound near the fields landing off ramp at 8:40 Wednesday night when his ford f250 rear-ended the tractor.
The drivable backhoe owned by Mercer-Fraser was also traveling northbound at the time on the highway shoulder and was not damaged. The driver of the tractor, 37-year-old James Meagher of Mckinleyville was not injured.
Lawrence sustained moderate head injuries and was taken to St. Joseph hospital. DUI is not a factor. According to the California Highway Patrol, Lawrence’s alleged inattention and failure to slow for the backhoe caused the collision.
