Two arrested in Eureka following report of possible DUI driver in Safeway parking lot
EUREKA- A sawed-off firearm and a stolen vehicle are found after police contact a possible DUI driver on early Monday morning in Eureka.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol arrived at the Safeway on Harris Street shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday when they saw 40-year-old Eureka woman Tasha Jantz behind the wheel of a white Toyota pickup truck, with 31-year old Waymond Kelly in the passenger seat. After pulling the vehicle over, officers determined Jantz was under the influence of alcohol. A sawed-off bolt action 22-firearm was also located on the front passenger floor board. In addition the CHP says the pickup truck the two were driving in was stolen hours earlier late Sunday evening.
Jantz is now facing charges for felony possession of an unlawful firearm with a prior conviction of a specified offense, possession of a controlled substance after a small amount of methamphetamine was found in the vehicle, felony vehicle theft, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, misdemeanor possession of an unlawful firearm, misdemeanor DUI involving alcohol, and misdemeanor driving on a suspended license.
As for Waymond Kelly, he was booked for felony possession of an unlawful firearm with a prior conviction of a specified offense and misdemeanor possession of an unlawful firearm.
