BAYSIDE - An Arcata resident was sent to the hospital just before one Friday afternoon after a two car collision.
The crash occurred at the Indianola Cutoff on the northbound side of Highway 101 in the safety corridor. One vehicle was traveling northbound on 101 and collided with another vehicle traveling southbound, attempting a left hand turn at the cutoff. CHP says each vehicle had two occupants inside. Humboldt Bay Fire Department was called to extricate the passenger of the vehicle turning left. The female occupant was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital with injuries. Two of the other three involved were injured but not transported.
“This is one of those reasons that the speed limit is lower because these side-impact collisions are significant. They cause a lot of injuries. It's certainly good that traffic does move slower through the safety corridor here,” Sgt. Phil Stacy, with California Highway Patrol, said.
