EUREKA- A traffic collision in Downtown Eureka sent two men to the hospital Thursday afternoon.
A Camaro and a Ford Taurus collided at the intersection of 6th and H streets around 12:30 p.m. Police say one of the vehicles ran a red light. The Camaro crashed into a traffic signal poll causing nearly $6,000 of damage to the light. According to witnesses, four firefighters helped the driver of the Taurus out of his vehicle. Both men were taken to St. Joseph with unknown injuries. There were no other passengers. Police say they do not know which vehicle ran the light or why.
"People need to pay attention when they're coming up to an intersection," Sr. Traffic Officer Tim Jones said. "Obviously somebody ran a red light. We've done what we can to make the red lights longer and did what we can to prevent red light running but people just have to pay attention when they come up to an intersection. It's not the time to be playing with the radio or day dreaming or anything like that."
