Two local fire departments become Safe Surrender sites
NORTH COAST- Two North Coast fire departments are the first in Humboldt County to become official Safe Surrender Sites. Every hospital in the state is required by law to be designated as one of these sites, and Humboldt Bay Fire and the Arcata Fire Protection District have joined in.
On Tuesday the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors voted to designate the two locations as a site where any parent is allowed to give up their child without fear of arrest for child abandonment. The safe surrender law has been in effect in the state since 2006 and according to the law any parent who is unable or unwilling to care for an infant can legally surrender their child within 72-hours of the child’s birth.
Should Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District look at ways to sell its excess water?
