Two with major injuries after collision on Highway 101

ARCATA- Two are in the hospital following a crash on Highway 101.

The collision happened just after 5 Sunday night near Samoa Boulevard. The driver, 18-year-old Ryan Ellena of McKinleyville and a sixteen-year-old passenger were heading north on the highway when they lost control of the vehicle.

The Nissan Pathfinder spun into southbound traffic, before rolling over and landing in a drainage ditch. Both Ellena and his passenger sustained major injuries. According to the California Highway Patrol. DUI was not a factor.
