MCKINLEYVILLE- Two trustees with the McKinleyville Union School Board have stepped down after public outcry over the boards unanimous decision to restructure the district.

John and Mary McCarthy, both married, announced they will resign from the position this week. A group of parents are organizing a recall election of the trustees whose terms are set to expire in 2017.

Superintendent Michael Davies-Hughes said, "The recall effort provides an opportunity to teach our students civics and the role of government in a democracy."
