Two people are dead and one injured in a solo-vehicle crash in Arcata.
Just after 6 pm Tuesday, Arcata and Humboldt Bay Fire responded to southbound Highway 101 near the 299 Interchange. They located a car that had gone down an embankment and struck a tree.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another died at the hospital. A third victim sustained minor injuries. They all had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Before that incident, 15 minutes earlier, emergency personnel were at another solo crash on Highway 299 near the Glendale exit. A vehicle with four occupants reportedly rolled down 20 feet off the roadway.
The victims sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Both crashes are under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
