UPDATE: Armed robbery suspect assaults officer and carjacks another vehicle
The following is a Press Release from Crescent City Police:
Saturday, August 17, 2013, at approximately 7:01 AM at the Subway Sandwich Shop, located at 850 Hwy 101 North an armed robbery occurred and a press release was disseminated to advise the public. The suspect was located by an alert Yurok Tribal Peace Officer in the Klamath area. Other law enforcement officers from Crescent City Police, Yurok Tribal Police, Del Norte Sheriff, California Highway Patrol, and California State Park responded to assist. The suspect intentionally struck a Yurok Tribal Peace Officer with the victim’s vehicle and subsequently a pursuit was triggered. The suspect then carjacked another vehicle while brandishing a weapon and sped southbound on Highway 101 at a high rate of speed. Currently the vehicle that the suspect had been driving has been located in the Humboldt County, Orick area, with the suspect still at large. Be cautious and alert for law enforcement activity in the area.
The Crescent City Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward to assist law enforcement in the apprehension of the perpetrator. Crescent City Police is also requesting that the public not to contact the suspect but to immediately contact the local law enforcement agency as this individual is still considered armed and dangerous. This investigation is ongoing and periodic updates to inform the public will continue to be forthcoming.
