As of Tuesday morning, traffic is now open to two lanes. According to Caltrans, construction crews used asphalt to build gradual ramps in and out of the sink area. At its deepest point, the sinkhole is about one and a half feet deep.

The California Highway Patrol Crescent City division is reporting a sinkhole on Highway 101 at mile maker 17.7, south of the Mill Creek Park entrance. Caltrans is operating 24-hour traffic control. A contractor is on site; we will have updates as they become available.
